Orthotic technicians make medical splints, special braces for feet or special shoes for people of all ages who may have diseases such as arthritis, open spine or stroke.

The orthotic technician also manufactures orthopedic devices. These splints, arches or special shoes can be used to assist in movement, adjusting the deformity of the body to correct and alleviate the disease.

The technician evaluates the patient's needs. He then manufactures the orthopedic device using the most appropriate materials. The technician deals with a wide range of materials including plastic, metal, leather, carbon fiber and composite materials. Many ingredients are made which are tailored to each patient. Often an orthodontic technician uses imaging and computer techniques to design the appropriate assessment tool for each patient.

Prosthetics are also one of the most important disciplines that help people in different situations and manufactures prosthetic prosthesis for patients who are missing limbs.
